Adventures in the Italian Alps
Join us in the Alps of Italy's Piedmont region and discover what
locals have always known. The Valle Maira is a gem.
Piedmont boasts not only Alba and the Langhe, but also Valle Maira, one
of the wildest and most romantic valleys of the entire region. High
above the rusted-modern day pace of nearby cities of
Turin and Cuneo, Piedmont is also the region best known for it's famous
Barolo & Barbaresco wines and truffels.
Our vacation features one week of culinary enrichment in the quiet
mountain village of Morinesio, with time in between to tour the valley
from its highlands and mountains to the nearby wine country. For those
interested in joining us for meals only, the region is rich with
breathtaking views, landmarks, and world class hiking trails from your
door.
Hosted by Casa dei Fiori, a newly restored complex of traditional stone
houses, a communal kitchen is the meeting place for most meals. Private
guest rooms feature all of the contemporary comforts.
Your day begins with a slow breakfast- no television, telephone or
computer in sight. By mid morning or early afternoon we welcome our
chef of the day, and begin preparations for a hands-on cooking session,
featuring historical insights and practices which have been passed down
within local families for generations. All recipies will feature
products from the local market, and vegetables will come fresh from the
garden. A delightful meal leaves room for either a later siesta or a
peaceful walk through the maountain trails of the village.
Excursions to the market provide opportunities to visit the city's fine
shops and cafes and courses also feature:
-- Trip to the local food market in Cuneo
-- Alpine landscapes: An outdoor exploration of
herbs
found in nature and used in recipes.
-- Visit to the cooperativa Elvese Cheese Farm
-- Cooking cLessons with Local Chefs form well known
Restaurants
The week includes cooking classes, accommodations (private bath),
breakfast, lunch and dinner, ground transportation, excursions. Air
transportation (from/to Turin or Nice) are not included.
The space is limited to 8-10 people. to hold space a 30% deposit is
reqired.
